Our Story

We met back in the spring of 2017 after we matched on a dating app. Our first date was June 21st at Stoney's Bread Company in Oakville, where we had lunch on the patio and after went on a few hour hike in Lion's Valley with Jaclyn's dog JD. Both of us felt an unspoken connection to the other and went on a few more dates. By July 27th we were officially a couple and needless to say, inseparable and obsessed with each other. Jaclyn moved in with Matt in December of that year and we haven't looked back since.

The first place we lived was a one bedroom 560sq apartment we rented in Kitchener on the 12th floor with our two large dogs. Looking back it's hard to imagine how we all fit but we happily lived there for a year and a half. We then bought our first house together in 2019, an older bungalow also in Kitchener that we lived in for just over two years. The dogs loved having a yard, we loved having friends over in our finished basement and would host regular parties. We are currently in our third house together that we moved into in August 2021, it's our dream house we were able to build and design together. Jaclyn loves designing and thankfully Matt agrees with her choices and lets her take the reins in the design aspect. We love that we have a walk out basement and back onto a green space with a creek. With a new build there is what seems like a never ending list of things that need to be done, but with the exception of the basement and back yard we are settled in and couldn't be happier.

We've been fortunate enough to travel a few times a year together, a highlight was our first trip to Europe together to watch Matt's client and team Canada win a gold medal at the World Junior's. It was hosted by Czech Republic in a small eastern town called Ostrava. On our trip we visited Prague, Vienna, Kraków, Paris and Amsterdam. We also frequent Florida and have been to one of Jaclyn's favourite places in the world, Disney World four times together! We've been to Nashville twice together and consider it one of our favourite cities in the world, we plan to do a combined bachelorette and bachelor party in the spring to Nashville since that is where we both want to go! We hope to honeymoon in Europe and to never stop exploring the world together.

Animals have always been a big part of Jaclyn's life, she's been vegetarian since 2005, and by his own decision Matt decided to try being a vegetarian shortly after they started dating and has now been one for over 5 years. We sadly both lost our dogs in 2022 to cancer, but we welcomed our first dog together into our family in May, a German Shorthaired Pointer named Nash who we are both obsessed with!

Matt proposed to Jaclyn in one of her favourite placed in the world, Glen Lake in Michigan during a family trip. Jaclyn's been going there since 2012 and Matt since they started dating. Every year we would spend hours on the dock, and it became our unofficial photo spot for each trip. On the day of the ladies were tasked with keeping Jaclyn distracted during the day so they went wine tasting, while Matt and Guy handled the setup. Matt had been working on this proposal for a few years but due to travel restrictions we were not able to visit in 2020 or 2021, he had a vision in his head and did not want to compromise as he wanted it to be perfect. We always planned to have our dog JD at the wedding with us, but after his cancer diagnosis in December 2021 we knew this wouldn't be possible. Matt wanted to at least include him in the proposal but due to Matt returning the original ring because Jaclyn changed her mind (a story for another time) and then a 8+ month production delay with the new ring JD unfortunately passed away before Matt got the ring. He wanted to keep him involved somehow, so before Jaclyn went outside there was a handwritten note from JD Matt wrote for her, which of course was instant waterworks. With an instrumental version of one of their favourite songs and some misty rain Matt asked Jaclyn to marry him on the dock where they've already shared so many fond memories. Everything about the proposal was perfect, and Jaclyn wouldn't change a thing.
